Aidan Coffey began his journey in the cannabis industry in 2017 when he took a position with renowned West Coast retailer, Have a Heart. After a year at Have a Heart learning the basics of the industry, Coffey started his union organizing career with the United Food and Commercial Workers International’s Cannabis Workers Rising Campaign.
The Cannabis Workers Rising campaign sought to establish strong labor standards in every state with a medical or adult-use cannabis program. During his time with the Cannabis Workers Rising campaign, Coffey worked in several states where he saw the need for stronger labor standards and social equity provisions to protect workers in the industry.
Today, Coffey works as a cannabis union organizer and representative with UFCW/RWDSU Local 338, which already represents 80% of the medical cannabis industry in New York State. He is excited to continue working with cannabis workers as the New York market grows.
